Thyroid function blood tests assess whether the thyroid gland is over or underactive. Symptoms such as unexplained weight changes, fatigue, temperature sensitivity, and heart rate changes may indicate a thyroid issue. At Reddy Urgent Care, our providers can order thyroid blood work the same day.

Types Of Thyroid Function We Treat
- Hypothyroidism (underactive thyroid)
Thyroid produces too little hormone. Causes fatigue, weight gain, and sensitivity to cold.
- Hyperthyroidism (overactive thyroid)
Thyroid produces too much hormone. Causes weight loss, rapid heartbeat, and anxiety.
- Subclinical thyroid abnormality
Mild thyroid dysfunction not yet causing significant symptoms — detected on blood test.
- Thyroiditis
Inflammation of the thyroid gland — can cause temporary hyper or hypothyroid symptoms.
When to Go to the Emergency Room Instead
Go to the nearest emergency room or call 911 if you or someone with you has:
- Severe rapid heartbeat, chest pain, or difficulty breathing with suspected hyperthyroidism (go to ER)
- Thyroid storm (very high fever, extreme agitation, rapid heartbeat — call 911)
If you are unsure, go to the ER. It is always better to be safe.
