When to Go to the Emergency Room Instead
Go to the nearest emergency room or call 911 if you or someone with you has:
- Third-degree burns (charred, white, or leathery skin with no pain due to nerve damage)
- Burns covering a large area of the body
- Burns on the face, hands, feet, genitals, or major joints
- Electrical burns or lightning strike injuries
- Smoke inhalation
